I have done 9 loads of laundry this weekend. That represents the total clothes cleaning requirement of a 4 1/2 year old (Jake), a 15 month old (Bobby), and a 37 year old (...uhh... me). My wife washes her clothes on her own - actually, to be honest she usually washes the kid's clothes too - but I was on such a laundry roll that I just went nuts. I even cleaned all of our sheets. I really don't know what posessed me. This weekend my wife is on call for her OB/GYN practice. That means starting Friday morning at 7:00 AM until Monday morning at 7:00 AM, she is at the beck and call of all the patients of the five doctors in the practice. Any babies being born during that time are her responsibility. Also, any "emergency" calls that come into the practice over the weekend are her responsibility. It is a real pain in the ass for me, but it must really be a pain in the ass for her. I mean, not only does she have to be at the hospital during most of the day, she has to get beeped from the answering service at all hours of the day and night. On busy weekends, its like some horrible, demented sleep deprivation torture. She goes to sleep not knowing if or when a call will come. Will there be 2 calls at night or 12? Will they come in the first few hours of the night or spaced out in just the precise pattern to rob her of any REM sleep whatsoever? I always complain about her call weekends, but she never does. It must be part of that special makeup that allowed her to become a doctor in the first place. |
