I've been watching the Women's NCAA Final Four Basketball tournament. There is something that bothers me about the coverage on ESPN and in college in general. It's the way the women's teams are refered to as "Lady" whatevers. The Southwest Missouri State mascot is a bear. I'm sure their men's teams are called the SMS Bears. But the women are referred to as the Lady Bears. And it's the same throughout the country. Tennessee has the Lady Vols, even my alma mater Rutgers, whose mascot is the Scarlet Knight, calls their women's team the Lady Knights. I'm not an Alan Alda-type feminist but, this does seem like a major inequity. Can't they just be called the Scarlet Knights who just happen to be playing women's basketball? Is Notre Dame called the Lady Irish and Syracuse called the Lady Orangemen? How stupid is that?
So now I know what CPAP means. Actually, I only know what "CPA" means. Controlled Positive Air. Like I said in an earlier entry, it forces air through your nose to keep the airway in the back of your throat open so you don't snore. The mask is a combination of the mask worn by Hannibal Lechter in Silence of the Lambs with the hose/mask setup worn by the Imperial TIE fighter pilots in Star Wars. And, as you might imagine, it is totally uncomfortable to wear. I also have to read marks on the sides of my nose where this thing chafed all night. I understand that the people who DON'T opt for surgery wear this thing every night. Since I sleep on my side and stomach, I can't imagine not being able to turn over because you're connected to this damn machine.
I thought you might like to now that while I was searching for a picture of Hannibal Lechter in his mask, I found a website that actually sells these masks. It is described as "all leather and arousing as hell". I like kinky sex as much as the next person, but this elevates the phrase "eat me" to a whole new level.
