I have been doing some shopping recently, both online and in actual real life. And so I am watching for the mailman (excuse me, mail carrier) with baited breath. No, not like that. Jeez. It's only been three sentences and this entry has already denigrated to the lowest level. I'm gonna start again.
So I've been ordering crap lately. You know Newton's 1st Law of Motion: An object in motion tends to remain in motion? Well, I have my own law of shopping. An Alan, once ordering crap, tends to continue ordering crap. It all started innocently enough. I ordered a few CD's from good old Columbia House. The O Brother, Where Art Thou Soundtrack, Tenacious D, and The B-52s Anthology Nude On The Moon. But then I couldn't stop. I read a review of Soul on Fire by Jenny Bruce and had to get it. It was totally an impulse buy. The review was by John Scalzi on his IndieCrit site. Go read the review and buy her album too. And it went on. I was meandering around Amazon and found that Grand Theft Auto III was out on PC. Had to have it. Ordered it. Am waiting for it.
In an non-entertainment related, real life, purchase trip, I had to order new contacts. I haven't gotten new contacts in a while and they've changed the way things are done. They don't stock lenses anymore. You get your eye exam, they determine your prescription (mine hadn't changed by the way - nice to now that my physical disintegration has slowed some) and then they order lenses that get shipped to your house. But my current contacts are really old and, quite frankly, painful so I'm waiting for the U.S. Mail to bring me comfort for my eyes.
