"....I can't go out tonight, its Thursday...."
I think that I have become a T.V. snob. Even though I am somewhat involved with popular culture, I really don't watch T.V. Sure, I listen to the radio, I cruise the Internet, I read a lot of magazines, but except for The Simpsons, I don't regularly watch T.V.
Some people plan their lives around whole nights of television. Some people only know what day of the week it is by what shows are on that night. I used to know a woman who would sit down with the fresh, new TV Guide as soon as it arrived in the mail and, using a yellow highlighter, map out her viewing and video taping "stategy" for the coming week. A little excessive, I think.
This is not to say that I don't watch T.V. I usually turn on the T.V as soon as I enter a room. I find something interesting on; news, sports, cartoons, videos, old movies, and then I leave it on. It basically serves as background for whatever I am doing.
But as for watching prime-time series programming, it just doesn't happen. I used to watch Seinfeld every Thursday. And after that went off the air, The Simpsons was my only weekly show. I don't watch Buffy. I tried to watch Friends, but it sucked. I've liked NYPD Blue the few times I've seen it, but not enough to make a commitment to my TV set every Tuesday night. I've never been able to sit through an episode of E.R. because it's just so bad. Am I a T.V. snob, or are there just no good T.V. shows on?
