I know that being a supporter of George W. Bush is not a popular choice in the World of the Internet (tm). That being said, I can't imagine what would be going on right now if Al Gore had become president. Notice I didn't say "win the election". I say that because, quite frankly, neither of them won the election. No one really knows what the final vote tally was, because no one in Florida can still agree on just what exactly contitutes a vote. Bush won the legal battle based on the election laws that existed at the time. Unfortunately, I don't think much has changed in the world of elections. I haven't heard of any great reform in either election law itself or the means in which votes are cast and recorded. Which really sucks because it means it can happen again. It means that some margin of error still exists in our voting process. Margin of error means "an amount of people whose intent was ignored or misrecorded". I'm sure it has been happening for decades but it seems that with today's technology combined with the embarassment and outrage of what happened this past election, something would have changed by now. Still, it galls me that some people still refer to Bush as the "non-president". He is president by the means and laws that existed available to him. Gore would have been the same exact "non-president" if the legal battle had come out in his favor. Of course, my guy won, so its pretty easy for me to say that.
Hmmm... large digression. Anyway, my real point here is that the big triumverant right now is George W. Bush, Dick Chaney, and Colin Powell. Even if you hate George W., you have to admit that those 3 are still better than Al Gore, Joseph Lieberman and whoever would have been Secretary of State in a time of war. And I know that the word "war" is being tossed around pretty easily these days. Still what would Al Gore be doing right now? My impression would be that he would have already lobbed a few Cruise missles into Kabul right now. That was Bill Clinton's response to terrorist bombings. I don't necessarily disagree with that response back then, but I'm pretty sure that Bush's (or whoever's) track on this current problem is correct. I'd like to think that the U.S. is going to send out a small number of covert squads to root out and destroy these terrorist cells overseas, while letting the F.B.I. and C.I.A. trace, track, and break up the cells that are in this country.
By the way, how would things be different, by Muslims having to deal with an administration that had a Jewish Vice-President. I don't know that much about Leiberman, but I have to think that a Gore Administration would have to downplay Leiberman's part in any dealings with some of these Muslim goverments.
On the Home Front: My new stepfather-in-law, Dennis is progressing somewhat. He had improved to the point that he is being considered to be taken to a rehabilitaion hospital. The problem here is that he can't be taken right now, because he has a fever. A drug-induced fever. Because the nursing staff at Morristown Memorial Hospital decided he was being a little to active and saw fit to give him the highest inital dose of Haldol (sp?) to keep him quiet. When my mother-in-law saw him the next day, he was totally out of it, and could stay awake. She complained to the doctor who said that it was a mistake, said he had only written a prescription for the smallest dose possible. Said he would change it in the patient's notes. Well the nurses gave it to him twice more at the highest dose, so he was really knocked out. Needless to say my mother-in-law was quite livid and got him out of there as soon as possible.
