Man, do my feet hurt! Even riding in a golf cart today didn't help my poor feet in those new golf shoes. Still, I was very stylish in my black and white saddle type shoes. Groovy. It was the most beautiful November day I've ever experienced. We were set to tee off at 8:56 AM and at about 8:45 AM the sky cleared, the fog lifted and the sun came out.
Oh.... how did I do? Hmm. Well, I didn't completely suck. We were playing something called "four-man scramble" or "best ball". Instead of every person keeping his own score, there is one score for the foursome. Basically, every person in the foursome tees off and the group plays the best ball. So whichever drive went farthest or straightest or some combination of the two is the shot that counts. Every person then drops a ball at that location and shoots their second shot. Again, the best shot is counted and everyone hits their third short from that spot. Also, each guy has to have at least four drives off the tee. That protects against a group having a big hitter being able to use everyone of his drives. The format works very nicely for guys like me who can make some good shots but can't put together a complete round of good golf. It rewards good shots and ignores poor shots. Even better for me was the fact that Bill, my brother-in-law, was only able to get 11 guys together today. That means our foursome was really a threesome. It was only me, Bill (my brother-in-law) and Bill, my father-in-law. So every third hole, one of us got a second shot from every location. It was like having an automatic "do over".
Oh.... how did I do? I didn't answer that yet? Well, I didn't completely suck. I made some great drives. I made some great chip shots. I made three really long putts including a tough one on the 18th green to end the round. But, alas, if I was keeping score and having to play all of my own shot, it would have been only average, if that. I'm working hard on breaking a score of 100. The best I've done was 106. But I walked (limped) away happy with my performance. I think that this might be the last round of golf for me this year though. I'm not sure how I'll be able to warm up for my two rounds of gold in England next March.
In other news, our house is a complete mess. I mean, every room of the house is just littered with toys, clothes, dishes or other debris. I don't mind a little mess, but this is the kind of mess that makes you uncomfortable to be in a room. Since Claudine is on call tomorrow, I'm going to try to really go nuts and clean the whole house. And when I say "clean the whole house", I really mean "pick up around the house". I'm not a cleaner in the true sense of the word. I don't dust or mop. Not that I don't do it, but more that I don't ever see the need. What I mean is, I don't see when it is necessary - I don't even think about it. When Claudine asks "did you dust?", I say "no, does it need it?" Then I go look and things are covered in dust. but I don't see it until it is pointed out to me. I'm a good sweeper, I don't mind vacuuming, but the whole dusting thing throws me. And I am a good straightener, picker upper. Something else I have to do tomorrow is fold clothes. And I hate to fold clothes.
