What a Difference A Haircut Makes

Also the 20 years that passed between these pictures may have something to do with the difference.

I got a haircut the other day. I got it even shorter than I usually do. Kinda buzzed on the sides. Not buzzed like a crew cut by any means. But she did use the clipper thingy rather than a pair of scissors, so it did in fact, make a buzzing noise. The haircut started me thinking about the various lengths of my hair through my life. So I thought I'd put up one of my "alternate" looks. Pretty groovy, huh?

That is my senior high school yearbook picture. It was taken in the spring of my junior year (1980). The beard was relatively new. I was playing King Pellinore in our production of Camelot. Basically, he was a musty, old king who had been hunting some beast for the last 20 years. I didn't want a cheesy, fake, high school beard, so I grew my own. I could, so what the hell. But I didn't figure that my senior pictures would be taken in the spring of my junior year.

The interseting thing about the pictures taken today is that you can see how crooked my nose is. Actually, it shows up in pictures much worse than it does in real life. When I tell people that I'm going to have surgery on my nose, everyone asks why. When I point out how crooked it is, they say "I didn't notice before, but now that you mention it..." So it is probably good to document my hooked beak because it should be gone after next week. Although people will probably say I look weird with a straight nose. What are you gonna do? Typing this now gives me an idea. Since I'll be both bored and out of my mind with pain and drugs, it seems like a good idea to be taking a series of "after" pictures in the days after the procedure. I'm sure you'll all stay tuned for that. I wonder if I can get good shots down my throat?
