As I was reading the paper this morning, I found two stories that I thought were 1) funny and 2) important enought for me to bring to your attention.

Man guilty of killing, dismembering girlfriend

NEW BRUNSWICK(AP) A man was convicted of killing his live-in girlfriend and then dismembering her body and cooking her head in a pot on his stove.

George Jeewicz, 48, of South River, could face the death penalty for the murder of Eunice Nadine Gullens-Joseph. Jurors rejected his claim that he shot the woman in self-defense on Oct 22, 1992, then panicked and cut off her head and arms to conceal his crime.

Jenewicz aso was convicted of weapons possession for the .357-caliber handgun he used to shoot Gillens-Joseph

First of all there has to be a typo on ole George's name there. Paragraph three has his name as "Jenewicz" but up in the first paragraph it is "Jeewicz". If his name is actually "Jeewicz", I think I've got a clue as to the motive for the murder. If Eunice Nadine was anything like me, she couldn't have resisted the urge to continually say "Gee Whiz, Jeewicz".

But the truly interesting thing here is the cooking aspect of it. Let's say for a minute that his story was true and he panicked and tried to cut up the body to make it easier to conceal. What is up with the cooking? In his "panic", he actually had to take out a pot from the cabinets and fill it full of water. I mean, where was George going with this? There is only one way that cooking something makes it easier to conceal and I don't want to even think about that. Gee whiz, George, you couldn't have been thinking what I think you were thinking, could you?

Story two comes from the sports pages.

More Cheerleaders to sue Eagles

PHILADELPHIA More than 100 former Philadelphia Eagles cheerleaders will join a lawsuit against 29 NFL teams, charging that visiting players peeped on them in a Veterans Stadium locker room, their lawyer said.

The suit filed in state court in Philadelphia, now has 44 plaintiffs but will be expanded for a second time next week, said lawyer Michael J. McKenna of Cherry Hill.

McKenna said that 117 women have contacted him, all but 10 of whom have returned signed documents indicating they will participate in the suit.

Many had not heard about the suit until the (news) coverage," McKenna said Friday.

Well this wasn't enought for me so I had to do a little more browsing on this story. This article from the Washington Post is chock full of great quotes including this one.

The lawsuit claims that visiting players -- whose locker room is adjacent to the cheerleaders' -- peeped at the women through holes in the walls and cracks between doors and the walls, and by scratching away at a window that had been painted over. The situation was "common knowledge among virtually the entire National Football League," the suit says, and the peep-show opportunity "was considered one of the special 'perks' of being a visiting team of the Eagles."

What I find interesting is that they aren't suing Veteran Stadium or the Eagles organizataion themselves. The lawyer, McKenna, explains it in this quote.

As for the Eagles, they were left out of the lawsuit not only because their locker room is removed from the cheerleaders' area, but also because "it's not lost on me that my jurors are going to be hometown fans," McKenna said.

The thing I find most interesting is that they are only suing 29 of the teams in the NFL. You see, they are suing teams that have played at Veteran Stadium since 1983. And the lucky old Jacksonville Jaguars have never played a game in Philadelphia. Of course, this makes no sense to me. With the way free agency is ramant in the NFL, players can have move from team to team at least 6 or 7 times. Meaning there are guys who because of the schedule may have never played a game at Veteran Stadium. And conversely, there are guys who DID do the peeping that are now playing for the Eagles or the Jaguars. So any of you guilty NFL players out there, heed this warning. Get your agent on the phone and work out a trade to Philly or Jacksonville and you can escape this lawsuit.
