I had a very sedate Thanksgiving. First of all, Claudine is on call from Thursday to Sunday this weekend. It sucks for Thanksgiving, but it is her only holiday this year. She had Easter weekend off, she has Christmas and New Years off also. But because of her schedule we didn't plan anything huge. We actually decided to go out to a restaurant for Thanksgiving. It wasn't really Thanksgiving "dinner" because we went for the first sitting (12 noon) at The Publick House in Chester, NJ. The four of us were joined by Gen (my mother-in-law) and Aunt Carol. Carol and I had the traditional turkey dinner with all the traditional trimmings. Claudine had lobster bisque (?). Gen had some other seafood dish. Wha?! What happened to Thanksgiving food? To be fair, Gen was going to another dinner after this one with Dennis' (her new husband) family. The head waiter took our picture with a digital camera and promised to e-mail it to me. If so, I'll post it here.
After lunch, we followed Gen over to the Kessler rehabilitation center, where she was picking up Dennis. He is doing quite well, even though he still has a long way to go. He moves pretty well, but has trouble finding the proper words to express what he is feeling or thinking. Also, he will zone out every once and a while just studying simple things trying to figure them out. It is sad but they say that he will still continue to make progress. Possibly by next year at this time, he may be back to near 100%.
Later in the evening, we went to my brother's in-laws house for dessert. Once we got there, we discovered that my brother wasn't there; he was staying home with his youngest because she has come down with chicken pox. My parents were there so we hung with them for awhile, but then went home at a decent hour.
Friday we did nothing. No really... nothing. Well, not nothing. Claudine went in to the hospital for a while. I packed up Bobby and Jake to drive into Madison so Jake and I could get our hair cut. Claudine met us in Madison at the hair place and it turned out that the woman cutting our hair is a patient of Claudine's. It is kind of strange to be talking to a woman and suddenly find out that my wife had her hands in this woman's vagina. How many other women do I know that my wife has had her fingers into?
We stopped at our favorite old bagel store to have lunch. It is always packed and busy but we always have a good meal and the tables are so close, we usually end up talking to other people. Which is a good thing. Bobby suddenly got a stabbing pain in his stomach while we were eating. It was basically my fault for putting on his diaper too tightly. He was wearing overalls so Claudine stood him up on his chair and reached into loosen his diaper. After she got it loose, she tickled him on the front of his diaper and on his belly. he laughed and said "again". Claudine tickled his belly again. He laughed but said "No, tickle my penis." I snorked up diet Coke. Claudine ducked her head. Bobby saw us laugh and said it again, "tickle my penis." I covered my mouth so he couldn't see me laugh, but it didn't help. Again... and louder. "Tickle my penis!" Suddenly it was a song, a chant. "Tickle my penis! Tickle my penis! Tickle my penis!" We were in hysterics. No one really looked up or jumped up to report us to DYFS. Bobby calmed down and resumed eating his meal having to go without his penis being tickled.
Afterwards, Claudine had to go back and deliver a baby so I took Bobby and Jake to the comic book store. I got the latest Superman and The Avengers. Jake picked out the latest Iron Man. Bobby picked out a copy of The Simpsons. God, I love that kid. Actually, I love Jake for reawakening my love for comic books. We came home and I did some more laundry for the kids. Gen picked up Jake for a sleep over at her house at 6:00. She's a good grandmother to do things like that. She gets quality time with Jake and I get free time after Bobby goes to bed. So Bobby and I split a quart of Chicken Chow Mein in front of the T.V. Watching the Simpsons, of course. I love this kid because he will eat stuff with me that no one else will. My two year old son will try new food that my five year old son and my 32 year old wife won't. Not that Chicken Chow Mein is any wild, exotic dish. But Bobby and I eat sushi for lunch all the time and Jake and Claudine won't come near us.
Saturday was more of the same nothingness. We had nothing planned. Didn't have to go anywhere. I did about a billion loads of laundry. We went to the library to return some books. Of course we took more out. I'm glad my kids are as excited by libraries and books as I am. I looked at these pages on the library computers. Navigator 4.7 I think. Man these pages are a mess. I really have to download some Netscape browsers to preview these pages, but I'm afraid that they are just going to screw up my system. We went to the dump to drop off our recycling stuff. I never remember what day I'm supposed to drag the plastic and bottles out to the curb. I just toss them in the back of the truck and drop them off on Saturdays. There is something soothing for me about going to the dump for some reason. I watched a bunch of football and folded a bunch of clothes.
I think I'm going to order a new computer tonight. I shouldn't. We don't really have the available money to do it, but I just want it. I mean, if you can't throw a party in The Sims because more than four people in the house causes the display to freeze, you need a new computer. Also, if I do this, I can move my old computer into Jake's room or into the boy's playroom. Jake started using a mouse at about 2 1/2, so Bobby is just about ready. Also Jake's games are all over my system. And... and... and... Look at me, I'm just trying to justify my purchase. Oh well.
