I'm home from Rhode Island and tired. And I'm zoning out with both the T.V. and the Web. You'd think that paying attention to the T.V. and typing and clicking on a computer would be less than restful, yet that is what I am doing to relax. I've learned something over the past two and a half days: I think I've been drinking too much diet coke. After sitting around for a couple of weeks not drinking any soda, I think the caffeine is really having an effect on me. I don't drink coffee. Ever. So I've never had the caffeine problem before. But having a clean system for two weeks and then pouring liters and liters of soda inyo it has given me a wiped out feeling. This is the most fragmented paragraph I've ever written.
The Olympics kind of suck. There has been so much controversy, I can't really get into it anymore. When you watch an event and think you know the outcome, you need to wait an hour/day/weekend/choose before you're sure that the results will stand up. When I was a kid, I would park myself in front of the T.V. at the beginning of the Olympics. Now with NBC's poor coverage of past years and all the controversy, I just can't get into it. I just remembered that this was the Olympics that had all the scandal for the past two years in setting up Salt Lake. In fact, I seem to remember something about some controversy regarding Salt Lake City being choosed in the first place. This Olympics has been cursed from the beginning.
As an aside, I've just seen a bobsled complete the entire run with a pushbar out for the second time. I've seen a lot of Olympic bobsledding and I've never before seen a sled go down the course with the pushbar out. And now twice. Both times, the announcers were screaming about how dangerous it was. The kept saying that bar could catch on something and flip the whole sled over. You know that would be so cool to see. As long as no one was hurt. Permanently hurt, I mean. Both times, the sled made it down the course. What a disappointment.
We got a ton of new furniture this past week. Claudine and I now have a big-ass king sized bed. Claudine has always wanted a king size bed. Whenever we would stay in a hotel, she would always comment about how much room there was and how great it was to sleep in a kind size bed. Neither of us are what you would call overweight (meaning we can both see our own feet. Except for Claudine right now, but normally yeah, she can see her own feet). So we weren't exactly pushing each other off the bed with our huge mass. Actually, I'm coming to a realization. It was probably my snoring that was so bad that she wanted to be as far away from me as she could and still sleep in the bed with me. And now I don't snore anymore. Damn, we didn't need this bed, we could have saved some money!
We also got a new bedroom set for Jake. He now has bunkbeds in his room. The bottom bed is a double and the top bed is a twin. It looks pretty cool. I have nothing more to say about this. Really, waht else can one say about a kid's bunkbeds.
Tomorrow, I am taking my truck to get new tires. For you non-link clickers, I have a 2001 Ford Explorer SportTrac. So I have the Firestone death tires. I was never really worried about these tires. Most of the accidents happened in warm weather locales and really hot conditions in the West and Southwest. I just thought it was cool that I was going to get new tires for free. So I waited until the last possible week until getting the tires replaced. I've put about 35,000 miles on this set of tires so even though people died in these accidents, I'm getting bonus miles on this truck. What can I say?
